The obverse features the Lion Capital of Ashoka with भारत INDIA and the denomination 5 PAISE, while the reverse shows the International Year of the Child emblem within a square, surrounded by decorative sprays, with the inscription “बच्चे की मुस्कान – राष्ट्र की शान / HAPPY CHILD – NATION’S PRIDE” and the year 1979.
